About 350 people marched through the city centre on Saturday 6th November as part of a Bath Day of Action for Climate Justice.
Events were staged throughout the country and round the world as a Global Day of Action for Climate Justice, organised by the COP26 Coalition.
People of all ages assembled with placards in Kingston Parade by Bath Abbey at 2pm, and heard a welcome address by organisers, Bath COP Awareness Group, and a rousing song sung by local musician Adrian Shaw, before making their way through Abbey Churchyard and around the city centre.
Demonstrators called for immediate action on climate and an end to the use of fossil fuels.
The Day of Action began at 11am with leafletting and public engagement at a stall on Kingston Parade, a Wishing Tree at Abbey Green, and the independently organised Sinking House installation at Pulteney Bridge.
Some 250 wishes for the future were made by visitors, with brightly coloured cards hung from a branch at the stall, and from the plane tree in Abbey Green. The wishes are being collated and a display organised.
An organiser, said :
“We have seen over and over again that the public have a better understanding of how serious the situation is than the politicians. We need events like this to keep up the pressure.
“It was brilliant to see so many families. We need to be able to support children through these insecure and distressing times. One way we can do this is by coming together as a community.”
